Okanagan Landing runs along Okanagan Lake from the south edge of Vernon to Ellison Provincial Park. It became part of the City of Vernon in 1993, but it still feels like its own lake community. I live here, at The Strand, and it's where I'd send anyone who wants to be on the water and still be 10 to 15 minutes from downtown.

What to check when buying in the Landing
- Sewer or septic. The City is phasing sewer into un-serviced parts of the Landing. Owners pay the Okanagan Landing sanitary sewer municipal fee and arrange their own connection. Find out whether the home is connected, and what connecting would cost. See the water and septic guide.
- The dock. Is it compliant with the provincial rules, and is the shoreline in a sensitive kokanee zone? See the dock guide.
- Flood level. Okanagan Lake reached a record level in 2017. Check the property against the City's flood construction level and ask about any past damage. See the flood guide.

- Steep lots up the slope, which can bring hillside development permits and retaining-wall questions.
